Demonstration - Welcome to the ocean

Image

Barents Secretariat

Image

Barents Secretariat - Mats og Wiviann

Image

Willow-Creek Feighery - Introduction

Image
Name: Willow-Creek Feighery Nationality: United States Interests in Arctic: Food Security, Climate Change, People to People Cooperation, Natural Resource management

Educational Background: I graduated from the Evergreen State College in 2017, where I developed fundamental skills to prepare me for a career studying biogeography and sociology. I achieved these goals through interdisciplinary programs that included independent field study abroad and other projects such as working on an on-campus organic farm. I have internalized essential concepts of plant botany, food systems, and natural resource management. I have developed and honed analytical methods in the field in the subjects of permaculture, geography, natural sciences, and social sciences.

Much of my focus was on polar regions. In the arctic I studied climate change’s impact on indigenous peoples, including cultural security, food security, and indigenous voice in the Arctic Council. Being from Alaska, the majority of my focus wa…

Einar Gjerde - Introduction

Image
Hi
My name is Einar Gjerde and I am stipendiat on Hot Arctic. I finished my first year on Pasvik Folkehøgskole in 2017 on the course of hunting and fishing. This year I am working as a second year student (stipendiat) at the fantastic course Hot- Arctic. This is my little baby, because I watched it grow. I am so lucky to be a part of this project. I am interested in what is happening in the world and the northern part is very interesting and this course will focus on what we want to know of the politics and other social studies topics involving the northern part of the world.

The outdoor life is for me essential and Pasvik is then the place to be. The idea of connecting the big topics in the world with a night around the fire and experience in the nature is exiting. I am interested in politics, social studies, writhing, music and outdoor life. From the scout I got my outdoor interest, from my family and school band I got my music interest and from my family, friends schools and teachers…

Wiviann Breibybråten - Introduction

Image
Hi, my name is Wiviann Breibybråten, I am 19 years old and comes from Bærum in Norway.
I chose to go to Pasvik folkehøyskole because my sister went here last year and when I was visiting her I fell in love with the place (the nature and the school) so I decided to start here. When I was here, I learned about the different main courses I could choose from, and I develop an interest for Hot Arctic - Geopolitics in the north.
Before I visited here, I had no interest in politics. So why did I choose Hot Arctic - Geopolitics in the north? I chose this main course because as I heard more about Finnmark's history I got a interest for the area and wanted to learn more about Finnmark, the borders and the politics. So what if I don’t so much about this subject, I am here to learn and to experience new things.

Mats - Introduction

Presentation of myself – Mats

My name is Mats(Born in November 1997), I have spent all of my life in what we consider Eastern-Norway. From 1997-2013 I lived in the Winter-Olympics town of Lillehammer, and in 2013 I moved from the mountainous region of Gudbrandsdalen to the flat-landscaped county of Østfold. My interests are: Cooking(Certified cook), history, politics and culture.
Being an “amateur-historian” is never boring as there is always something to learn about in the different regions and countries of the world. Which is why I picked the brand new Hot-Arctic class/course on Pasvik-Folkehøgskole (And to meet new people of course). I realized that the Barents/Northern Regions of the planet is easily overlooked because of the current events of the world and it receives not that much attention from the bigger news-related media. But I believe that there will be more coverage of the area in the near future.
I hope I will gain greater knowledge about the surrounding countries and the …
